World's Fastest Motorcycles!

In September of 2006, history was made when Chris Carr piloted Dennis Manning's BUB Streamliner 'Seven' into the record books as the world's fastest motorcycle—setting an average speed of 354.832 MPH. The 2006-2007 Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows provided the perfect platform to showcase this great machine, and this year 'Seven' is back with four other historical machines that once held the pinnacle prize of being the fastest on earth.

Joe Petrali broke the land speed record March 13, 1937 on board a specially built streamlined Harley-Davidson, clocking 136.183 in the mile—a record that held for 11 years. Petrali later became the official timer for Bonneville Salt Flat trials.

Leo Payne's highly modified 1957 Harley-Davidson Sportster, dubbed the 'Turnip Eater', was the first machine to exceed the 200 mph mark. Payne's 1969 Bonneville Salt Flats performance helped kick-start S&S Cycle's successful line of racing carburetors. Payne was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in 1991 alongside Joe Parkhurst, Founder/Publisher of Cycle World magazine.

In 1991, S&S Cycle's 'Tramp III' held the record for fastest single engine conventional motorcycle with an average top speed of 226.148 MPH. Attendees at this year's show will get the chance to see it up close and in person.

Cal Rayborn rode to a record in 1970 by piloting a Harley-Davidson Sportster-based streamliner to a new American and International record of 265.492 MPH. The 'Manning' Harley-Davidson, to which it was referred, weighs more than 700 pounds and is more than 10 feet long.

Chris Carr, 7-time AMA Grand National Champion, piloted the BUB Enterprises Streamliner to a record 350.884 MPH at the 2006 International Motorcycle Speed Trials held at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah September 7. Christened 'Seven' by owner Dennis Manning (it being the seventh streamliner Manning has designed in 40 odd years of holding and chasing the Land Speed Record), the fastest motorcycle in the world features a purpose-designed and engineered V-Four cylinder turbo charged 16 valve liquid cooled double overhead cam motor that delivers nearly three liters (158 inches) and close to 500 brake horse power and features a custom designed and made monocoque carbon fiber and Kevlar construction chassis that provides the strength needed to reach such speeds.
